'What Remains', (2025) Muhannad Shono - NASO Artwork Spotlight with Hafsa AlKhudairi
“Muhannad Shono’s work ‘What Remains’ takes the concept of land art quite seriously—looking like a series of sunken ships revealing themselves after centuries have passed and their masts have absorbed the materials of their surroundings. The use of sand from the site and creating a material that interacts with the wind and the sun showcases a sensitivity to the land itself and the stories they may reveal.”
“As is typical to his practice, the work enables the imagination and allows the viewer to interpret and question what these pieces are remnants of and what they say about those who left them behind. However, as it depends on the element, catching the work in a non-windy and/or non-sunny day may be ineffective as the material becomes more transparent on sunny days and reveals eerie sounds when they move.”
